According to recent surveys, a large majority of Architecture firms in the United States are now utilizing Building Information Modeling (BIM). As firms have adopted BIM into their organizations, that has created a new challenge in regards to communicating BIM requirements. Firms have always needed to communicate CAD standards to their staff, but the increased use of BIM necessitates the communication of BIM requirements with persons outside the design firm. This communication includes not only consultants, but the owners/clients who may have never been part of that communication in the past. Owners may not fully understand aspects of the technical discussion of BIM requirements, so it is very important to communicate BIM information in a way that helps reduce miscommunication on such important information.

As a licensed Architect with practical experience in building design and project management, Doug Bowers has the ability to assist your organization with that BIM communication with both staff and clients. DBC services can be used as needed on a project by project basis to help achieve the desired goals of the specific project.

Contact Doug Bowers for more information on this service.

Welcome to Doug Bowers Consulting, LLC.

Doug Bowers Consulting provides design software consulting services to organizations that utilize Autodesk products for architecture/engineering/construction (AEC) related functions. The mission of Doug Bowers Consulting is to help organizations get more value out of the design software and the product resulting from the design software.

Doug Bowers combines over 30 years of architecture/engineering/construction (AEC) experience with over 20 years experience in managing and consulting in the use of various design software packages. That combination of experience enables Doug to bring a unique perspective to assisting clients. He has used various design software packages to design and document actual projects, so he can identify with the challenges faced in getting the project “out the door” in a cost-effective manner. Doug also has the ability to communicate with both technical staff and non-technical management and clients to coordinate project requirements and be a liaison when needed.

Organizations that can benefit from DBC services include, but are not limited to:

Architectural design organizations

Owners of the facilities created with design software

Contractors

Building design engineers

Specialty design consultants

Organizations that provide products to the AEC industry

Building Information Modeling (BIM) is gaining popularity and even being required by clients, including many government agencies. Doug Bowers Consulting works with both design firms and building owners to take advantage of the benefits of Building Information Modeling.

Whether your organization desires to get more productivity out of your current design software, enter the world of Building Information Modeling, or assistance on a project, Doug Bowers Consulting is ready to help.

Thank you,

Doug is currently conducting 2-hr seminars entitled “BIM Responsibilities with the AIA® Document E202″.

When BIM is required on a project, the AIA® Document E202 should be an integral part of the contract documents. The “AIA® Document E202 BIM Protocol Exhibit” was published by The American Institute of Architects in 2008 and specifically addresses criteria surrounding the Building Information Model, regardless of the building type or software being utilized.

This seminar will address the AIA® E202 and ramifications of the document as it relates to developing and sharing the BIM file. It will address information within the document and how various portions directly impact the financial aspect of your project and organization. Information in this contract document can have adverse financial implications for an organization and the document’s completion needs careful consideration.

The process of sharing the Building Information Model between consultants, contractors, clients, owners, and others is part of the E202 and will be discussed. The following information will be part of the discussion:

Levels of Development of the model (degree of detail for various components)

Responsible party for various information within model

Model Management protocols

Model ownership

Standards for information within the model

Clash detection / Interference checking

Model Elements as specified by the document

Authorized Uses of the Model per the document

Persons who would find this seminar of interest include design firm owners, architects, contractors, construction managers, building owners, structural engineers, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, specialty consultants, project managers, and any others interested in Building Information Modeling.

Contact Doug Bowers Consulting if you would like for this seminar to come to your community.

In the 1980′s, Computer-Aided-Drafting (CAD) started changing the Architecture/Engineering/Construction (AEC) industry. It allowed us to draft faster and change our designs more easily. Incorporating CAD into our companies so that it positively impacted projects and profitability required some changes to our workflows. While it gradually changed over to Computer-Aided-Drafting and Design (CADD), it has still been primarily a drafting tool.

We are now in another era of change in our industry, which is the implementation of Building Information Modeling (BIM). BIM is far more than just a drafting package and enables more design capability to be performed while also speeding up the documentation stage. BIM is more of a process than a software and affects all different aspects of a business and the AEC industry if properly implemented.

Not all companies nor all AEC entities have a need for implementing BIM processes. Companies need to evaluate their need for BIM, and then evaluate the degree of BIM implementation that is profitable for their company. Doug Bowers Consulting (DBC) can assist your company with a realistic analysis.

If your company is working on BIM project, DBC can also assist you with BIM Project Collaboration Services to help keep consistency to the BIM project file throughout the life of the project. DBC works with the owner, the design team, and/or the contractors to ensure the integrity of the model.
